The tech matrix web site would be a technology tree of current and emerging technologies that would be linked to future technologies in a tree or matrix formation. The idea for the web site stems from video games (mainly strategy games like Civilization (screenshot), Master of Orion, Deadlock, Ascendancy, and the like). Typically in these strategy games the player researchs technologies in a "tech tree". Certain technologies have to be researchs before more advanced technologies are unlocked and can researched.
For example, the technology of the wheel could be added to the matrix. Technologies that stem from the existance of the wheel (say the bicycle or the car) would be added with the wheel being a parent. Future technology like flying cars, the holodeck, etc. would have existing technologies needed to enable that as parents.
What is the purpose?
The purpose would be to create a real world tech tree that displays (or helps?) the progress of current technology in the enabling future technology.
Suggested implimenation?
It would seem that the tech matrix could be accomplished in a current wiki implimenation with only a few improvements (like a tech tree map) or a parenting feature. Additional improvements might include displaying how far we are with current technology from the designated future technology.
